Pay taxes to fund corruption

Land redistribution is essential, and way overdue, say so many reports, yet the front page of the Sunday Times proved just how misplaced that drive can be. A multimillion Rand fund designed to assist poor farmers has been squandered, and used to fund the lavish lifestyles of fat cats and their hangers-on. But wait read further    theres more. The Gauteng Health Department has been shown by the auditor general to be mired in mismanagement and accounting blunders. No matter how great the commitment to rooting out corruption, it will take a bit more than a few smiles and promises. Please explain to the patients who cannot access their life-giving medicines that there has been a mistake. Poor Pastor Ray has suffered too from lack of funds. Hmm judging by his wifes spending habits, and his own penchant for the finer things in life, maybe he should have been a wee bit more careful with his spending. Of his own funds? Really? Im sure if he appealed to his friends in the ruling party they would help him out. The cherry on the top though must go to Eskom needing a 45% increase in tariffs to build more power stations and keep South Africa empowered, but in reality it seems this increase will be more to fund the free electricity used by so many households in Soweto, to mention one area only. There is an organization the Soweto Electricity Crisis Committee, which has members paying R5 per annum, and which also receives donations from some NGOs which reconnects electricity, illegally and very dangerously, when the supply has been cut off for non-payment. Eskom knows about it, and even holds meetings with the Committee which has offices across the road from Eskoms office in Soweto. Doesnt that strike somebody as just a little bizarre? All of the funds mentioned here (with the possible exception of Pastor Ray of course churches dont pay tax do they?) have been collected as tax from the ever-dwindling number of tax payers in this country. I want to know why we have to pay these taxes for politicians to do nothing but steal our hard-earned bucks. The few (and ever fewer) who do work are funding those who pretend to.
