Chances are, as we sit here right now, you have an invitation to Farmville sitting in your "confirm requests" list. It`s huge. Everyone is playing farmville. I resisted it for weeks and weeks, reminding myself that it was an entirely pointless application that simply wasted time and required you to be online pretty much constantly.
Until I gave in. Now I`m a farmviller (is that a word? Oh well if it isn`t). I now get cross with Neotel when campus internet goes out, because they make my plants die. Neotel have had two major interruptions to Rhodes` internet supply in the last week, and now I can`t afford to expand my farm. It`s entirely irrational.
So, if it`s irrational and a waste of time, why do we all play farmville? Apart from the fact that it`s fun to try and amass large quantities of coins, what`s the draw. Well, there is none, really. You`re obliged to send gifts and help out on your neighbors` farms. You spend hours (literally) on farmville, trying to make everything perfect. And for what?
Now, I`m nowhere near ready to stop playing farmville. I`ll stop over the December holidays, because internet in Zimbabwe is far too slow to play farmville. In addition, I won`t be able to access the internet at the same time every day, so I`ll have to get by with not playing. Now, I think I`m going to go off and buy DVDs so that I can burn all of my series onto disc so I`ll have an endless supply of series to pass the two months. At least I have the holidays to help me quit my unhealthy habits!
